We facilitate a wide variety of therapeutic activities using gentle and well-trained horses. Special group programs can be developed and tailored to fit your specific needs and treatment goals. All programs are one hour in length, except for our summer day programs. Equine programs are offered at Miles Hill Farm in Guilford.
Spring Sessions begin April 1. Call for details. "Therapeutic Riding Program" (weight limit 200 lbs.) Hour long, weekly riding session for children and adults. Lesson includes basic riding skills, cognitive and social skill development. Private 30 minute sessions or 60 minutes group lessons (limited to four participants). ($55/one hour group, or one half hour private lesson.)
"Therapeutic Un-Mounted Program" Weekly program for children and adults who do not want to, or are unable, to ride. Emphasis is on developing a relationship with the horse through basic grooming, leading, care, and stable management. $660/Twelve week session. Particularly popular is the "Memory Adventure" program for residents of senior and assisted living centers. The class includes discussion about horse markings and breeds, horse care, grooming time with the horses for a great upper body and fine motor workout, and reminiscence for those who grew up on farms. Two hours, scheduled by appointment. $250. Up to eight participants.
"Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy (EFP)"
Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy (EFP) is an interactive
process with a licensed mental health professional and a kind and willing
equine partner who helps to address the psychotherapy goals of the client. No
horse experience necessary as traditional talk and art therapies are
incorporated in the process of the equine experience.
Relationships, self esteem, grief and loss, anxiety,
depression, recovering from a crisis, or any array of other life transitions
and challenges can benefit from this unique treatment approach. Fees upon request.
"The Equine Experience" Two week summer adventure about everything equine! Full day 9-3 p.m., Monday-Thursday. Designed for ages 7-15 years old. This program includes a daily riding lesson, equine science class, horsemanship and farm management skills. A variety of equine professionals visit to demonstrate careers such as veterinary, farrier, or equine dental work. Week of August 4, ages 7-11. $425/one week. "The Equine Experience" is held at Miles Hill Farm, Guilford.
"Memory Adventure" Designed for Alzheimer/Dementia, Traumatic Brain Injury, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or Multiple Sclerosis clients, this memorable visit to the farm includes a discussion time about breeds, marking, equine body language, grooming horses while recalling names of tools and the sequence of grooming, and a reminiscence time for those who grew up on a farm. Available as a single two hour workshop. $250/up to eight participants.
"Horses for Heroes" Mounted or Un-mounted therapeutic equine program designed for Veterans and their families. Please support our Horses for Heroes benefit events. September 14, 2014.
